I LOVE MOTHERHOOD
reading the tittle i guarantied the reader this is going to be a girly blog entry..NOT ...i was never that of a girly girl nor was i a tomboy...i am just me ...i like things moderately hence i'm writing this blog entry ...[sorry if i'm not making sense-erk quite well known for that amongst people who knows me well]
i love motherhood because it's only natural for a woman to be a mother and loves her offspring to bits ..to not like it maybe a bit odd or it's a sign of some psychological thingy going on there..
i love motherhood because i love seeing my lil one grow up and achieve...not that i'm expecting too much out of him but it's only natural to have expectations...the first few perfect steps, the first few words [albeit 'dada' comes out first rather than 'mama'], the first few words he can read and the first few A s in his report card.....
i love motherhood because i have the right to shout and pretended to be firm when i was told by my son's teacher he helped another little boy in his class to write a letter to girl saying 'you are smelly'.....
i love motherhood because i have the excuse of having a two storey [too much information ain't it?!] condominium for a tummy as i've given birth and it's only natural to accessorized yourself with a bit of fat....
i love motherhood because i get to be the one my 'little man' looks up to...he adores me and i'm the prettiest most beautiful human being in the world to him ...[this does not occur after i drilled the words to him since he was 3 months old- i can assure you that!]
i love motherhood because whatever i said to my lil 'jumply'[i called him jumply as he can't stop climbing and jumping] is like the word of God ...he listens and take it it ...

when droitwich becomes kg. droitwich
Worcestershire ...my first thought was , i swear i've seen a sauce on a supermarket's shelf bearing a similar name. I was surely right, and true to its name the factory is located not quite a stone throw away but near enough as we now live in a small village-like town called droitwich in the county of Worcestershire. I've been to Worcestershire in 2004 and didn't really think much of it..compare to Cumbria where we were based back then the area seemed busy and bleak. But now after almost 3 years in Droitwich everything seems almost 'like home'.
I came to England without joy and identity. That was how i described myself if anyone asked me how i felt then. I was so miserable and sad to leave everything and everyone i know in Malaysia. I was somebody then. I've established my career and a place in the community. What more could a kampung girl asked for then?
In pekan everybody seemed to know me as i was a teacher then and have taught almost most of the kids aged 13-17 there and you'd get the occasional waves and hellos of parents and kids. I've missed these dearly during my first few months in droitwich ...even when i was teaching at a high school here near droitwich i was still missing these ..but not with this lovely pre school job i have got my 'respect' back!. I have little kids knowingly waving and smiling and giving me loving hugs in town and parents nodding heads and even stopping to share 'weather' conversations with me. Suddenly i felt so important again. I felt known and loved.
It was then i realised that i don't have to be such an ungrateful and miserable little sod anymore..i can be happy! things started to feel homely. Then Morrisons feels like Pekan's local supermarket. The high streets shops feel like Pekan's bargain galore bazaars..and most of all sending Adam to school is not a lonely chore anymore...I'll walk 3 miles back and forth with my head hold up high knowing that at some bends and corners i'll have people saying and waving 'hi' or even a friendly honking or two. I have made my mark here on this foreign soil...Droitwich has become my Kampung. I know all the backstreets and shortcuts...and made friends so now everything seems in place ....i'm very happy here with my love ones so alhamdulillah we did make a right choice to come here...

CANTERBURY 22 NORTH HOLMES RD
It was the renaissance era for the 5 of us.....England the new experience for 5 kampung girls.......no more belacan and keropok lekor...it's more of cheese and chips experience.....THEN..THERE WERE 5 :Chik the cheeky one, was the joy to the group. Lina the witty girl always wise and curious. Rahmah, demure and ladylike . Yati the sensible one with a reserve character and then there was me ...talk too much and stubborn.
22 North Holmes road brings a lot of memories ....there, we learnt to live together and also accidently learnt on how to make keropok lekor with some fresh sardines from Safeway and some bread flour. It was the discovery of the century ...we rejoiced the moment and savoured the authentic almost terengganu like keropok lekor we created....it was heaven for us...[yeah the 5 of us comes from the east coast of malaysia where keropok lekor is more or less a daily cuisine....]
We also discovered the real truth about each other ...our characters and preferences........yes there were fights and sorts...but that is what girls do ..we fight !..it's parts and parcel of being girls living together , we can never see eye to eye in many things ...yet we are still friends ....[I hope]..Maybe a couple of us got their feelings hurt a lot but deep in our hearts we knew all of our fights weren't meant to hurt anyone at all...it was all some silly misunderstandings......... [ maybe it was just that to me not to our reserve housemate...soweyyy mate!] Anyway ...i believe most of us really enjoyed our English experience....we adapted to Asda, Netto, Safeway & Sainsbury instead of Jusco in Maluri & Tops in Leisure Mall . We even became addicted to the famous Wincheap carboot sales.. [i got some cool stuffs from there]....on some days we loved to go to ASHFORD to shop ...it was a marvellous place to shop! you can get anything from pots and pans to branded underwares...
i remember a nice little trip to Dover with chik, lina and lina's friend....we had quater pounder burgers from a turkish shop and ate them on the banks of dover overlooking the shadowy glimpse of France...it was a lovely day out!
I remember having lunches out in the garden of our house in Canterbury...we were the ladies who lunches!!!we had so much fun preparing food and we ate outside and talked about our future and silly stuffs.....i really misssssssss that happy moments..
.....i know this would be a boring article to read if you are not part of the 5 North Holmes girls pact but that's the point of it ...the article is meant for the 5 girls to read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Girls......do you remember the first night we're there?...we got our house key and we went to the wrong house and that was the start of a silly war with the racist guy who lives with his grandmother next door....anyway we managed to find the right house and we got in and we got excited...each and everyone of us was assigned to a room...[well most of us...Lina got a store room as a room ...poor Lina! ...but I'm sure she got some fond memories of that room...in fact the room turned out to be our chill out room, we had meetings and lots of gossip session there! ] After we looked at our room we all were very happy ..[except Lina of course!] ..as it was the sign of freedom to us ..asa sign of maturity in a foreign country ...the memorable thing that night was our supposedly welcoming dinner ....being Malaysian and all we expected something more than just a big loaf of bread, a big chunk of cheddar cheese and a basket of apple....we were so hungry that night after 3 hours delay in the airport, and all we got that night was that 'mat salleh' welcoming snack.....what were they thinking of?...cheese sandwich for dinner?GILOS! so that nite almost 5 years ago we went to bed in a foreign country with an empty stomach yet everybody could still managed a sleepy smile before we slept..yeay...I'm in England!..5 years ago...yet it seems just like yesterday to me!
Working in the UK
We got a scholarship from the government but it was like peanuts and should i say of very minuscule amount so we all have to find work....we found work everywhere.....rahmah and yati at the Canterbury college of art doing weekends cleaning, chik at Ersham Lodge...making beds and cleaning on weekends, Lina and me at Ebury Hotel....making beds and cleaning on weekends....on top of this weekend jobs we also have other week jobs ....but i would say the most memorable job for me was doing the newspaper rounding on my old bike...Lina and me had wonderful memories of falling off our bikes on an icy road for braking too hard, shoving newspapers in the mailbox so quickly because we were attacked by dogs.......we also did some factory work...HOPPER'S? remember our night shifts with those flirty Albanians?...hehehhe

I know this could be a boring subject to write but to me, i need to put all my canterbury memories in words...because i want each and everyone of this people to know, somehow ....in many ways we have crossed a similar path....and they've touched my life ...

Do you still remember our late evening adscene newspaper delivery?. I can still remember it vividly!. I remember falling off our bikes on a snowy day simply because we were too naive to know that we were not supposed to brake harshly on icy surfaces...[i fact now i believe we should have not been riding a bike at all on that snowy day..we could have injured ourself.......]...do you still remember our experiements in the kitchen?...we made nasi himpit and rendang for the eid and a few variety of traditional eid biscuits....we never thought we could do it...but we ended up as the only house in canterbury with rendang and nasi himpit for hari raya!...lina...i can also remember your delicious laksa kelantan you've made on a cold english morning...kalaulah mat salleh makan laksa memang diorang akan tabik kat mu mek na!!! imagine that pakai ikan mackerel dari asda to make laksa....creative or what????!!!!!...do you still remember the party we threw for RON and MIHO, jOE and those taiwanese gals?....i still got a photo of that occasion....we made satay using the house's rickety old grill and caused the fire alarm to set off twice...gilos kan?...and do you still remember my first strawberry cake i made under your supervision?...i was so proud of it and i made you take photos of it to send to my mum....uh lina i wish we are as carefree as we were back then...

Do you remember the time when you used to sacrificed your privacy to accomodate me in your room because andrew came to visit?..i really appreciate that ..we even had slumber parties in your room ...you , me, lina and rahmah ...i got a picture to remember those days by..u want me to post it in friendster??heheheh.....i can also remember when it's your turn to cook you will always cook your famous kuah kicap with spices ...it was gorgeous ....i like it a lot chik...masaklah untuk akak lagi ..and who can forget your very spicy sambal tumis ...sedapnyer!....and of course who can never forget the fact that you are my best buddy when it comes to going shopping for clothes....newlook, debenham,bhs....uh dan byk lagilah....akak windu shopping with u.....

i know i will never ever be able to record all the memories in canterbury that accurately but at least i got something to remind me of the dearest journey of my life lest in the future the cobwebs of time shall tarnish me of my concious memories........
....AND IT ALL SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY WE ARRIVED AT HEATHROW AIRPORT ALL EXCITED AND THANKFUL WE MANAGED TO STEP ON ENGLISH SOIL....

Do you still remember our late evening adscene newspaper delivery?. I can still remember it vividly!. I remember falling off our bikes on a snowy day simply because we were too naive to know that we were not supposed to brake harshly on icy surfaces...[i fact now i believe we should have not been riding a bike at all on that snowy day..we could have injured ourself.......]...do you still remember our experiements in the kitchen?...we made nasi himpit and rendang for the eid and a few variety of traditional eid biscuits....we never thought we could do it...but we ended up as the only house in canterbury with rendang and nasi himpit for hari raya!...lina...i can also remember your delicious laksa kelantan you've made on a cold english morning...kalaulah mat salleh makan laksa memang diorang akan tabik kat mu mek na!!! imagine that pakai ikan mackerel dari asda to make laksa....creative or what????!!!!!...do you still remember the party we threw for RON and MIHO, jOE and those taiwanese gals?....i still got a photo of that occasion....we made satay using the house's rickety old grill and caused the fire alarm to set off twice...gilos kan?...and do you still remember my first strawberry cake i made under your supervision?...i was so proud of it and i made you take photos of it to send to my mum....uh lina i wish we are as carefree as we were back then...

I remember falling off our bikes on a snowy day simply because we were too naive to know that we were not supposed to brake harshly on icy surfaces...[i fact now i believe we should have not been riding a bike at all on that snowy day..we could have injured ourself.......]...do you still remember our experiements in the kitchen?...we made nasi himpit and rendang for the eid and a few variety of traditional eid biscuits....we never thought we could do it...but we ended up as the only house in canterbury with rendang and nasi himpit for hari raya!...lina...i can also remember your delicious laksa kelantan you've made on a cold english morning...kalaulah mat salleh makan laksa memang diorang akan tabik kat mu mek na!!! imagine that pakai ikan mackerel dari asda to make laksa....creative or what????!!!!!...do you still remember the party we threw for RON and MIHO, jOE and those taiwanese gals?....i still got a photo of that occasion....we made satay using the house's rickety old grill and caused the fire alarm to set off twice...gilos kan?...and do you still remember my first strawberry cake i made under your supervision?...i was so proud of it and i made you take photos of it to send to my mum....uh lina i wish we are as carefree as we were back then...

i know i will never ever be able to record all the memories in canterbury that accurately but at least i got something to remind me of the dearest journey of my life lest in the future the cobwebs of time shall tarnish me of my concious memories........
....AND IT ALL SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY WE ARRIVED AT HEATHROW AIRPORT ALL EXCITED AND THANKFUL WE MANAGED TO STEP ON ENGLISH SOIL....
